She prepared for her job at the Music Box Theater. It wasn’t her day job, but the theater kept drawing her back. It wasn’t for the additional paycheck. Was it the stately architecture? Was it her love of glamour or nostalgia for days gone by? One thing was certain: the theater was elegantly shabby in the most glorious manner possible. She experienced a thrill each time she entered the theater; the hushed atmosphere, the smell of fresh popcorn, the murmur of the crowd, the sound of live organ music and the anticipation of a memorable evening. This was a movie palace with soaring ceilings, a dazzling marquis and plush velvet curtains. It featured movies that recalled the glamour of days gone by.
Her job was to sell tickets or to guide people to their seats. She looked for her favorite patrons; an elderly couple. They held hands tenderly while walking to their favorite seats. The man wore a suit and tie with a fedora. It was his custom to remove his hat before the movie began. His wife wore her customary mink stole, a tailored dress with silk stockings, and spectator pumps. She wore an exotic fragrance that mingled with the peppermints she kept in her pocketbook. The crowning touch was always a beautiful piece of jewelry from a seemingly inexhaustible collection. It commemorated the joyful and important occasions in their life together; pearls, cameos, brooches and rhinestones that shone as brightly as the Music box marquis.
What was it about the retro movies? Was it the clothes, the shoes, the…Jewelry???
My mission:
-To create unique jewelry that has been restyled, re-vamped and restored.
-To rescue jewelry previously left in jewelry boxes to languish, forgotten in jewelry boxes and dresser drawers.
-To find uses for unmatched pieces so they are no longer lonely.
-To celebrate the shabby, chipped, and time-worn treasures that retain their glamour.
-To honor and encourage the stories that these treasures have acquired over the years.
-To create thought provoking jewelry that when worn, inspire happiness.
-To continue my unrelenting quest for the ultimate combination of colors, textures and elements.
-To create jewelry that appeals to as many senses as possible; the jangle of a charm bracelet, the smooth edges of a timeworn treasure, the sparkle of a rhinestone, or perhaps the lingering scent from a vintage perfume pendant.
Words of wisdom:
"There is no remedy for luxury" Diana Vreeland.
Passions:
All things vintage, rhinestones, gemstones and other treasures from the earth and sea. Animal prints, all things chipped, faded or timeworn. Whimsy. Ephemera. The thrill of the hunt for new/old treasures. Patina. Items that are rusty, crusty, old and dusty. Love for all things sparkly; some say it’s part of a woman’s DNA.
Other inspirations? Music. Any music from A-Z. Other influences: French, European and Asian art from Kimonos to Buddhas. Textiles, graphic design and nature. Space and time prevent me from commenting further…
Advisory: The majority of this jewelry consists of vintage jewelry components. While every attempt has been made to make a durable piece of jewelry, keep in mind that most of these pieces have survived decades of use. They will not respond well to rough handling. Plainly stated, these items shouldn’t be worn while swimming, operating a jackhammer or similar vigorous activities. The passage of time has led these unique treasures to you. Treat them kindly, please.
Reality check:
Justkim is a wife, a mother of multiples and a lovely singleton. She has had a variety of careers with twists and turns that have led to this:
Revamped, restyled and restored vintage themed jewelry. Southern by choice, she lives where eccentricities are noted yet kindly tolerated. Justkim was merely looking for something to do when she wasn’t creating sumptuous window treatments in her workroom. Her love of gardening has been put on hold due to a severe four year drought. The voracious hosta munching deer had also been a determining factor. A benign obsession began which resulted in a line of jewelry that is sold online, at boutiques and trunk shows across the land.
